America’s Crossroad [ video ]

Transcript (excerpt):

For the past year and a half, I’ve struggled with how I could become better. A better person, a better father, a better spouse, friend, and steward of my community.

I’ve reflected on my mistakes, successes, family, friends, and vocation.

As an artist, I’ve attempted to observe the world, translate it, and recreate it in beautiful terms.

I’ve watched the news and been shocked at our readiness to capture and observe and accept. To some degree, it even paralyzed me.

On one hand, I knew that the events were a shade of the story, on the other, I could see the underlying truth in the stories.

I tried to balance what I was seeing and feeling by detaching myself from it all – by scrolling through the feeds on Facebook as if I was flipping through channels on tv.

I tried to balance the information as if I was standing on top of the tallest building, overlooking the city, somehow apart from the people and our shared experiences.

The point I’m trying to make is that my struggle for the past year and a half was one of being disconnected, trying to understand it all, and looking for solutions, one could even say a revolution, that was rooted in politics, or culture, or art.

And now I know that I was missing the mark because the solution is a spiritual revolution. A revolution of the heart.

ARIZONA YOUTH EXPRESSIONS (AYE!) POETRY WORKSHOP

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Arizona Youth Expressions (AYE!) is a four-week writing and performance poetry program for youth ages 13-18. The goal of AYE! is to offer Arizona youth tools to express themselves, to become comfortable presenting their ideas, and to have their poetry published in a printed book upon graduation. AYE! incorporates both workshops and public speaking/performance to achieve measurable outcomes. Classes begin in April for National Poetry Month.

SUBMIT YOUR ART @ PARLOR/FRESH

Parlor/Fresh is more than a showcase – it’s a love bazaar. A love for art. A love for culture. A love for everything FRESH.

P/F is also artist education, development, and consultation. All too often, the artist community has an abundance of talented creatives, but lack key ingredients in taking their art to the next level. It takes the proper mix of marketing, promotion, and developing key relationships to really make things happen.

This is where Parlor/Fresh comes in…

TRAILER | ART:EDUCATEd

This expose was special. Not only in its promotion for art as wellness and education, but also because Ron Jolly, his students and I have worked together before when we recorded, mixed and mastered a song that got placed in an indie feature film.

I have personally witnessed the power of art in teaching children valuable life skills and promoting wellness. Seeing the impact Ron has in his class and the positive outcomes, it just made sense to highlight his audio engineering program and to hear the importance of art from the students themselves. How they feel. What they think. The practical ways that art helps them in life.

Working alongside FelixFast4Ward added an element that words can’t describe. We also have worked together in music and theater, and there aren’t many people that are just…genuine, humble AND super talented. And, true to form, he came through – an experience we’ll all remember. Thanks, Fe 🙂
